Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh The Noble Quran --The Makkee & Madanee Suwar The Quran was revealed to the Prophet (sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallaam) in individual, separated parts over a period of twenty-three years. Allah says, in Surah al-Israa, 17:106 "And (it is) a Qur`aan which We have divided (into parts) in order that you might recite it to men at intervals. And We have revealed it by stages." Based upon this, the scholars have divided the Qur`aan into two categories: Makkee and Madanee. Makkee: These are the verses or Suwar that were revealed to the Prophet (sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallaam) before he made his hijrah, or migration to the city of Madina, (regardless of the exact place the verses descended). Madanee: These are any verses or Suwar that were revealed to the Prophet (sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallaam) after he made the migration to Madina, (regardless of the exact place the verses descended). review pages 43 - 54 inshaAllah | |
