Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh
The Revelation of the Qur`aan
The first revelation of the Qur`aan was revealed to the Messenger (sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallaam) on the night known as the Night of Decree (Laylatul Qadr) in the month of Ramadhaan. Evidence for this statement: Surah al-Qadr 97:1; Surah ad-Dukhaan, 44:3-4; and Surah al-Baqarah, 2:185 When the first of the revelation descended upon the messenger (sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallaam), he was 40 years of age, according to what is commonly stated by the people of knowledge. The one who descended with the Qur`aan from Allah to the prophet (sallaAllahu alaihi wa sallaam) was Jibril (alaihi sallaam). Proof for this is Allah's saying: Surah ash-Shur`araa, 26:192 - 195 Jibreel (alaihi sallaam) has been described with many great praiseworthy characteristics: Surah at-Takweer, 81: 19 - 21; Surah an-Najm, 53: 5 -7; and Surah an-Nahl, 16:102
